Too Toxic to Trash – Dispose of Sharps Safely
It is illegal to put used needles into a plastic milk jug and throw them into your garbage can. It’s not good for the environment, either. To dispose of a syringe properly, you need an approved sharps disposal container. The City of Yucaipa has received a Sharps Grant from the State Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle).
As part of the grant, the City received sharps waste containers for public distribution to assist in the support of a safe, convenient, and cost-effective way for collecting and disposing of home-generated sharps waste. If you are a Yucaipa resident and are interested in a free sharps container, please visit City Hall at 34272 Yucaipa Boulevard and ask for the General Services/City Clerk Department. As part of the grant, you will receive a free sharps container and an informational guide to proper sharps disposal.
Please do not do the following:
- Do not put needles into used plastic milk jugs, bleach bottles or soda bottles.
- Do not flush needles down the toilet.
- Do not throw used needles, syringes, or lancets in the garbage or recycling containers.
To properly/legally dispose of needles, do the following
- Do use an approved disposal container.
- Do find a collection center for proper disposal (San Bernardino County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility) See information above.
