MULTI-USE TRAILSEquestrian Activities

Equestrian activities have a long history in the Yucaipa Valley, dating back to the Yucaipa Valley Riding Club of the mid 1900s, the Hunt Ranch (now Wildwood Canyon State Park), and other equestrian organizations past and present.  Equestrian uses remain an important part of Yucaipa’s character.

The City’s Yucaipa Equestrian Arena, on California Street and Avenue G near the wash, is the place where local horse lovers meet. The one acre main arena is perfect for horse shows, gymkhanas, and group practices, and a smaller arena is ideal for cattle events such as ranch sorting and team penning. Many local horse groups regularly use the arena for their activities, and you will find something happening most weekends – spectators are welcome to stop by and watch, anytime. Gymkhanas are exciting as riders race around poles and barrels to get the quickest times. During horse shows, beautifully groomed show horses with riders in dazzling outfits perform in halter, English and Western classes. Some weekends you will see riders trying to outmaneuver cattle while racing against the clock. At other times, you can watch the Yucaipa Sheriff’s Mounted Posse members train their horses for police activities and crowd control. Occasionally there are clinics, where several unusual obstacles are set up, and hesitant horses are trained to go over or through them.

The Yucaipa Equestrian Arena Committee, Inc. (YEAC) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was started in 1997 by community volunteers to promote the use of the Yucaipa Equestrian Center; to preserve, maintain and improve the facility; and to involve the community in equestrian activities such as 4-H, horse shows, clinics, seminars, gymkhanas, etc. The committee is dedicated to keeping the rural atmosphere alive in Yucaipa for the enjoyment of our residents and also for those of our surrounding communities. For more information, please visit the YEAC website.  If you are interested in making a donation or renting the facility for an event, please call 909- 965-2755 for availability and fees.
