The City of Yucaipa is offering an American Red Cross “Learn to Swim” program. Certified water safety instructors will teach children ages 6 months to 12 years old how to swim and the importance of water safety. Swim lessons are offered at 7th Street Pool (12385 7th Street) on Saturday mornings. Registration is available online! Please contact the Community Center at 909-790-7460 for more information.
Level 3 will provide additional guided practice in deeper water. Students will learn to jump into deep water, sitting or kneeling dives, side breathing, back float, flutter and dolphin kicks on front, scissor kick, front crawl and elementary backstroke, tread water, and water safety topics.
Level 6 refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances.
Ages 6 mo. – 3
This class will familiarize children between the ages of 6 months and approximately 3 years with the water and teach swimming readiness skills. It will also provide safety information for parents and teach techniques parents can use to orient their children to the water.
Ages 3 – 4
This class helps participants ages 3 to 4 years old feel comfortable in the water. Skills will include entering and exiting the water, blow bubbles, submerge face, open eyes under water and retrieve submerged objects, front and back glides, back float, roll over, tread water, leg and arm actions on front and back, and water safety topics.
Semi-private lessons are three students to one instructor ratio in which an instructor will adjust to the skills the students have. The students will learn new skills and work on stroke refinement.

Level 5 will provide further coordination and refinement of strokes. It will include shallow angle dive, submerge completely, front flip turn and backstroke flip turn, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly, sculling, and water safety topics.
Level 1 helps participants ages 4 years and older feel comfortable in the water. Students will learn to enter and exit water independently, fully submerge face, exhale underwater, bobbing, opening eyes underwater and picking up submerged object, front and back glides and floats, roll over, and water safety topics.
Level 4 will develop confidence in the skills learned and improve other aquatic skills. Students will learn to dive, front crawl and backstroke open turns, front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly, flutter and dolphin kicks on back, tread water, and water safety topics.
Level 2 is designed to give students success with fundamental skills. Students will learn to fully submerge and exhale underwater, bobbing, retrieve a submerged object in shallow water, front and back glides and floats, roll over, combined arm and leg actions on front and back, and water safety topics.
