Council Members are non-partisan positions, each serve a four-year term, and are sworn in on the second Monday in December of even-numbered years. There are no term limits. Terms are staggered so that three seats are available during one election cycle and two seats are available during the next cycle.

City Council Eligibility

Any member of the public who meets the requirements below may run for public office in the City of Yucaipa.

  • Candidates for the office of Council Member must be a United States citizen; be at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day, and be a resident and a registered voter in the district they seek to represent at the time the nomination papers are issued and during the term of office

Nomination Documents

The General Services/City Clerk Department issues candidates nomination documents during the official nomination period. Nomination forms are issued at no charge. Office hours are Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m (closed alternate Fridays). A candidate should be prepared to provide their name and residential address for validation of current voter registration and eligibility status.  If you would like additional information or are interested in running for office, please contact the General Services/City Clerk Department at 909-797-2489, ext. 221 or 230.
