Business/Economic DevelopmentCULTURAL ARTS
“In my own philanthropy and business endeavors, I have seen the critical role that the arts play in stimulating creativity and in developing vital communities. The arts have a crucial impact on our economy and are an important catalyst for learning, discovery, and achievement in our country.” Paul G. Allen, Philanthropist and Co-Founder, Microsoft
In an effort to stimulate City neighborhoods through the economic benefits of culture, there has been a growing movement to incorporate art into economic development activities. Communities are finding that the arts can play a crucial and valuable role in their local community economic development efforts. This is most commonly (and certainly most visibly) accomplished through the construction or renovation of a live performing arts center intended to generate direct economic and indirect regenerative benefits for the community. Arts and culture are magnets for tourists, and tourism research repeatedly shows that cultural travelers stay longer and spend more. Whether serving the local community or out-of-town visitors, a vibrant arts and culture industry helps local businesses thrive.
